Chalk Paint Table

Arles Table

I used Arles on this table.  I finally bought some of the spout tops for my paint cans.  I LOVE them!  It makes pouring a lot easier and it's much faster to screw the top back on rather than hammering the lid after each use.

Easy Homemade Muffins

Pin It Now!

Easiest Muffin Recipe Ever!

Blueberry? Strawberry? Chocolate Chip?  Cinnamon Apple?
You just add a cup of whatever ingredient suits your mood.  This is my mom's muffin recipe and I've been making it forever.  We always have muffins on Sunday morning.  I might not get around to fixing breakfast any other day of the week but muffins are a tradition on Sundays at our house.  This recipe is super easy.  You can make them healthy or you can make them fattening.  I'm going to give you several recipes and you can decide! Eventually, you must try them all!  They're amazing!

Basic Recipe:

1 c. sugar
1 c. milk
2 eggs
2/3 c. oil
2 c. SR flour
1 c. of fruit or other flavor

Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

In the below recipes you will see that I've altered this recipe in many different ways, adding everything from oatmeal to applesauce.  You can leave these plain (without the 1 c. of fruit and decrease sugar to 1/4 c.) for an excellent dinner muffin too.

*****************************************

Blueberry Muffins

2 eggs
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. unsweetened natural applesauce
2/3 c. oil (I use extra light olive oil)
1 c. oatmeal, uncooked
2 c. self-rising flour
1 c. frozen or fresh blueberries
1 tsp vanilla flavoring

Mix eggs, milk, sugar, oil and applesauce.  Add remaining ingredients and pour into greased muffin pan.  This makes 12 large muffins.  Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

*****************************************

Applesauce Oatmeal Muffins

2 eggs
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1/3 c. oil
1 c. oatmeal, uncooked
1/2 c. unsweetened natural applesauce
2/3 c. oil (I use extra light olive oil)
2 c. self-rising flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla flavoring

Mix eggs, milk, sugar, oil and applesauce.  Add remaining ingredients and pour into a greased muffin pan.  Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

*****************************************

Strawberry Muffins

2 eggs
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1/3 c. oil
1 c. oatmeal, uncooked
1/4 c. unsweetened natural applesauce
2/3 c. oil (I use extra light olive oil)
2 c. self-rising flour
1 tsp vanilla flavoring
1 c. fresh sliced strawberries

Mix eggs, milk, sugar, oil and applesauce.  Add remaining ingredients and pour into a greased muffin pan.  Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

*****************************************

Chocolate Chip Muffins

2 eggs
1 c. milk1 c. sugar
1/3 c. oil
1 c. oatmeal, uncooked
1/4 c. unsweetened natural applesauce
2/3 c. oil (I use extra light olive oil)
2 1/4 c. self-rising flour
1 c. semi sweet chocolate chips

Mix eggs, milk, sugar, oil and applesauce.  Add remaining ingredients and pour into a greased muffin pan.  Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

*****************************************

Gooey Surprise Muffins

2 eggs
1 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
2 1/4 c. self-rising flour
2/3 c. oil

Mix together above ingredients and pour into a greased muffin pan.
In a separate bowl, mix together the following ingredients...

2 Tbsp butter
2 tsp cinnamon
2 Tbsp flour
2 Tbsp brown sugar

Put about 1/2 tsp of "gooey stuff" on top of each unbaked muffin.  This will sink to the center and make a gooey, yummy surprise inside!
Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

Healthy Muffins

1/2 c. egg beaters
1 c. skim milk
1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. granulated splenda
1/2 c. unsweetened natural applesauce
1 c. oatmeal
1 c. self-rising flour

DIY Easy Kindle/iPad Cover Tutorial

Pin It Now!

Kindle/iPad Cover Tutorial

In this tutorial, I used a kindle as my pattern but you can easily use this to make a cover for any kind of device such as an iPad, Nook, etc.  Just adjust the measurements. Happy Sewing!

What you need:
2 coordinating Fabrics
Scissors
Sewing Machine
Thread
Decorative Button
Iron

First of all, measure your device.
With the case, my Kindle measures 8" x 5 1/2"

Cut 2 pieces of fabric measuring 10 1/4" X 7 3/4"
Cut 2 pieces of coordinating fabric measuring 10 1/4" x 7 3/4"

Don't you just love this fabric?  I got it at Premier Fabrics in Germantown.

I'm going to use my two fabrics as the example in the pattern, calling them "chevron" and "flowers"
Take one cut piece of chevron and place flowers fabric on top of it, with sides facing.

Sew them together leaving an opening at the base of the fabric (so you can turn it afterwards)
Now sew the other 2 pieces of fabric in the same way.

Cut your corners so that they are flat instead of pointed.
Turn the fabric, feeding it through the hole at the bottom and then use scissors or something pointy to push out the corners.  Do this to both pieces of sewn fabric.

Now Press them with the opening turned in and then sew up the opening using a top stitch.  Do this on both panels of fabric.

Decide which fabric you want for the outside of your bag and put that fabric together, printed sides facing each other.
Now, sew those two panels together, leaving an entire side open at (what will be) the top of the bag.

After you sew the panels together, cut the corners flat, turn it and then press.
Now, you can sew on any kind of embellishment that you'd like.  I put a button on mine that has absolutely no purpose other than looking cute!

and now a rather random thought...

Don't you love this old fashion YARD STICK?
I found it at a garage sale and thought it was super cool!

Thirst for Knowledge

It's Teacher Appreciation Week and I am sending a small teacher gift to school with my daughters everyday this week.  I made these cups using my Silhouette Cameo.

You can view the TUTORIAL here...

DIY Silhouette Cameo Cups

I love the tag!  My friend, Joy made these for her kid's teachers and then I copied the idea:)
My 12 year old said the tag was "CHEESY" but I think it's adorable!

Thank you TEACHERS for all you do!!!

Art Studio Desk

I was going for a very "ARTSY" distressed look on this one because it's my desk in my art studio.  I love the way it turned out but I wouldn't have distressed it this much if it had been in any another room of my house.  I used ASCP "Graphite" with clear wax on this piece.

I didn't get very good "before" pics of this desk.  It was formerly spray painted black with a shiny, drip-splattered paint.  Let me just say that I couldn't wait to get my sander on this baby!  It was only after I had been sanding for a little while that I realized I hadn't photographed it... oops!

Green Monster Smoothie

Green Monster Smoothie...

I found this smoothie on Pinterest about 6 months ago and it is really good.  I was looking for something healthy that packed in a lot of protein and still tasted good.  I couldn't imagine that a smoothie with fresh spinach could be just that... but it is.  It's one of my all time favorite smoothies.

picture from "Iowa Girl Eats"

"Iowa Girl Eats" is a great website full of wonderful recipes that are healthy and delicious!

You can find the Green Monster Spinach Smoothie recipe here...

I seriously love this website.  It's bookmarked on my computer under recipe blogs and I check it every week.  It's a really great source for healthy food options!!!

A Few of my Favorite Things...

Antique Bed Bench

I love this bench.
It's one of my favorite things.
I saw a photo on Pinterest a few months ago and thought turning an old antique twin bed into a bench was a charming idea and pinned it with no real intention of ever making it!
The following week, I was perusing Sheffield's (my favorite antique mall) and I spotted this lovely...

I took a pic of it with my phone and sent it to my husband with a text that said... "Please!?!?".
Since he didn't respond to my text, I assumed his answer was "yes" and I went ahead and bought it.

And now it sits in my Hearth Room...

Look at these beautiful antique caster wheels.

Isn't she lovely?
