Antique Bed Makeover

This sweet old bed belonged to my husband's grandparents.  It was in their little house as long as he can remember and when they passed away, we were asked if we would like any of the furniture in the house.  Our youngest daughter wanted this bed.
Please trust me when I say that this is a very good "BEFORE" pic and does not accurately reflect the condition of the bed!

The bed has been in storage for almost 2 years, as we tried to figure out what to do with it.  So, I just decided to start redecorating my daughter's room this week.  She was tired of the twin bed with trundle pull-out.  She wanted a "big girl room" without all the "cutesy, baby stuff" to quote her directly!  The big decorating obstacle in this room is the PERIWINKLE wall color that she chose...

So, we're working around it and I think it's turning out quite pretty.  We're using lots of white with shades of gray and then accenting with a few bright colors.  I'll give you a big final room reveal when it's all finished... hopefully next week.
Until then, here are a few more pics of the detailed distressing work I did...
I used ASCP Graphite on this bed and painted it directly over the white original paint.  I sanded lightly so that I would have a lot of the white underpaint (I think I just made up that word) showing when it was distressed.

Now I need to get up and get busy sewing some window treatments but at least I got to put my feet up for a few minutes and enjoy the new comfy bed!

Come and par-tay with me at these awesome LINK PARTIES...

  7. I love this bed and the story behind it makes it even better! I think your daughter's room will look great with the neutral white/gray/black to play off the periwinkle walls. Found you though Homespun Happenings and you'll be getting my *like* vote. :)
